Poets' Café #39 Poetic Duels: Almada Negreiros vs. Mário Cesariny
Featuring José Anjos, Maria de Abreu Morais (luchapa), and Nuno Miguel Guedes (moderator)
Almada Negreiros and Mário Cesariny are the two leading figures who defined the Portuguese avant-garde of the 20th century, each at the forefront of distinct movements: Modernism and Surrealism, respectively.
Although they belonged to different generations, both were widely recognized for their work in the fields of writing, poetry, and painting, and it is known that they held a deep mutual respect for one another.
In this session of Café dos Poetas, texts and poems by the founder of the group “The Surrealists” will be compared with the ideas and practices of the leading figure of the first generation of the 1915 Modernists.
